What you call dreams, I call lives. Each night I fall asleep to live out parallel lives in other realms. That is what my species does, we never rest, we never stop, we are continuous and always. We first came to this world in our original form as a mist, a breath, pure thought without emotion. We meant only to pause briefly here, we became curious about some of your mysteries. We only wanted to gather knowledge and experience, but we stayed too long. Once trapped here we found it impossible to escape these shells you call bodies, and are now tethered to this place, this earth, for all eternity. Doomed to live out one life after the other, an endless succession. Now with the rise of each sun we are pulled back into these bodies and forced to remain until the nightfall where we can then for a few hours roam freely traveling the heavens. The most we can hope to do is stand as examples, and warn the others of our kind, as they pass freely through this existence. So painful now that we have learned what envy, sorry, and regret all mean. We the endless beings, we wait.
